Rwanda routed Djibouti 3-0 in the second leg of the first round of the 2025 CHAN Qualifiers and advanced with a 3-1 aggregate score.
On Thursday, October 31, the Rwanda National Football Team (Amavubi) defeated Djibouti 3-0, with Olivier Dushimimana scoring twice to advance to the second round of the CHAN 2025 qualifiers.
Dushimimana’s two goals in the first half gave Rwanda a strong lead, especially after their 1-0 loss in the first leg. The former Bugesera winger, now with APR, had a stellar performance, scoring his first-ever goals for the national team.
He scored his first goal barely 10 minutes in and his second in the 24th minute, both assisted by midfielder Bosco Ruboneka.
Amavubi continued to control possession in the second half, creating several opportunities, but it wasn’t until the final minute of regular time that substitute Arsene Tuyisenge scored to make it 3-0.
With a 3-1 aggregate victory, Rwanda will face the winner of the Kenya vs. South Sudan match in the final round of the 2025 CHAN Qualifiers. South Sudan holds a 2-0 lead as they head into the second leg, scheduled for Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala.
East African nations Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will host the 2025 CHAN tournament from February 1-28, 2025.
