Head coach Johnathan McKinstry names his 25 man contingent that will travel for the Pre-CHAN mini tournament and Sadiq Wassa takes over from ejected Fred Kajoba.
The head coach Jonathan McKinstry of the national senior men’s football team has announced his team that will depart from Entebbe International Airport to Cameroon for the Pre-CHAN mini-tournament today Monday, 28th December 2020, at 3 pm.
The mini-tournament will take place between 1st and 7th January 2020 with four teams taking part including hosts Cameroon, Uganda, Niger, and Zambia.
“We have been in camp a week now, and the players have all pushed really hard. It is very clear that everyone is focused and determined. They want their ticket to go to Cameroon, they want to go and represent Uganda. You can see that in terms of the enthusiasm, in terms of the energy, in terms of the learning that’s happening both in the classroom and on the field. So, we have been very pleased with the week, we came through it well, no injuries, one or two knocks but nothing serious,” said the head coach.
“And so, now we travel to Cameroon where we participate in a mini-tournament involving Cameroon, Zambia, and Niger and we think this is a really good platform for the players not only to get good match preparation as a team but also the opponents will be playing match up nicely against some of our group opponents in terms of the styles we can expect,” he added.
Sadiq Wassa has also been appointed the goalkeeping coach after Vipers head coach was ejected from the technical team after breaking COVID-19 rules when he left camp to go attend a church service on Christmas day.
Uganda is pitted in Group C with Morocco, Rwanda, and Togo. CHAN will kick off on 16th January 2021 in Yaounde, Cameroon with hosts playing Zimbabwe in the opening match. Uganda will face neighbours Rwanda two days after opening day.
