Uganda To Contest Host Rwanda In Group A At The African Nations Volleyball Championship

The host Rwanda will play neighbors Uganda, Burkina Faso, and Burundi in the Group A African Nations Volleyball Championship.

Compared to any other previous championship, this edition of the senior men’s championship has reported a record number of participating teams. 16 teams will battle it out to be crowned champions of Africa.

The 16 teams were divided into 4 groups with host Rwanda automatically falling in Group A. titleholders Tunisia, Cameroon, Egypt, RDC, and Morroco, in that order were given groups according to their positions at the previous edition of the championship.

The group stages matches will be played in a Round-Robin format with the final group ranking derived from the number of victories made by the teams. The team with the highest number of victories will lead the group.

The top 2 teams from each group at the end of the group stages will then proceed to compete in the quarter-finals.

As per the tournament format, day 1 should be 1 vs 2 and 3 vs 4 as they fall in their groups which means Rwanda would face Uganda in the opening match but as host, Rwanda can decide the team they want to verse in the first match and they already had eyes on neighbors Burundi. Leaving Uganda to Burkina Fuso.

Group D will have the clash of teams from North and East Africa with Morroco, Kenya, Egypt, and Tanzania falling in this group.

Tunisia is not only the titleholder but also has won this title more than any other nation in Africa, with 10 trophies followed by Egypt with 8.

The Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship will be contested from 5th to 16th September 2021 in Kigali at the magnificent Kigali Arena.
