The FIFA International Break Saw Some African Countries Face-Off Each Other In Match Friendlies.
Following a round of interesting international friendly matches that took place from October 7 to October 11, we take a look at some of the events that happened and others scheduled for today and the due course.
Milutin Sredojevic’s Zambia has been the busiest in this International Break. Chipolopolo has used the most of this FIFA International break, playing 3 matches in 5 days. Hosting Malawi in Lusaka on October 7, travelling to Nairobi on October 9 then heading to South Africa on October 11. Three matches, two wins and one loss. Not bad results for the preparations.
At Mpira Stadium in Blantyre, Malawi and Zimbabwe played a goalless draw on Sunday, October 11.
In other matches, Algeria defeated the Super Eagles 1-0. In this match, Nigeria Super Eagles wanted revenge given the fact that they met in the AFCON 2019 semi-final in Egypt with Algeria clinching a 2-1 win over Nigeria to earn a berth in the final.
Some of the Countries that have been able to cross the African continent to play friendlies are Cote d’Ivoire who drew 1-1 against Belgium on Friday, October 9, 2020, in a game at the King Baudouin Stadium, Belgium. A goal from Michy Batshuayi for Belgium was cancelled out plus there was a late second-half penalty from Elephants midfielder Franck Kessie.
Cameroon held Japan in a goalless encounter played on October 9 in Utrecht, Holland.
Charles Akonnor’s first game as Ghana head coach ended in a defeat as the Black Stars were beaten 3-0 by Eagles of Mali on Friday, October 9, 2020. The match took place at the Emirhan Sports Center in Antalya, Turkey.
