Bank of Kigali Basketball National League draws have been released by FERWABA.

In order to conclude the Bank of Kigali Basketball National League (BKBNL) given the current COVID-19 world situation, the basketball governing body of the country decided to conclude the league in a tournament format. The draws have finally been made for the newly created tournament to conclude the Basketball leagues season with the results as follows:

In the women’s category, there are 4 teams in one group that will play round-robin format:

  • RP IPRC Huye (women)
  • The Hoops Rwanda
  • Ubumwe BBC
  • APR BBC (women)

In the men’s category, there are two groups with four teams each:

Group A

  • REG BBC
  • RP IPRC Musanze
  • UGB
  • RP IPRC Kigali

Group B

  • APR BBC
  • Espoir BBC
  • Patriots BBC
  • RP IPRC Huye

The top two teams will each earn a ticket to semifinals with the table leaders from either group meeting the second-placed side in the other group.

The women’s four teams will play a round-robin format for the preliminaries to decide 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place team. Thereafter, they will proceed to the semi-finals 1st Vs 4th and 2nd Vs 3rd. The winners from this round will then proceed to the finals.

Speaking at the draw ceremony, FERWABA second Vice Present Richard Nyirishema said, “The resuming of BKBNL is a relief for all of us but everyone needs to understand that this tournament will be organized in special conditions because of the prevailing pandemic and we need to behave responsibly. Our common opponent during this week of the competition will be COVID-19.”

Headline sponsor Bank of Kigali was represented by the Head of Marketing Thierry Nshuti who expressed excitement at the return of the league.
He said, “We have fought COVID-19 with determination and there are good signs that we are winning. We missed a lot for sure but the love of the ball in the net is still there and our athletes to make us happy. Basketball is back and we at Bank of Kigali are happy to partner with the game we love.”

Mr Ernest Ntaganda, FERWABA Head of Technical and Competitions Commission graced the event making the first draw at the ceremony.

The fixtures will be released soon and all the games will be played in Kigali Arena from October 18 to October 24, 2020
