SC Kiyovu moved a step closer to their first league championship in thirty years after a narrow 1-0 victory over Musanze at Ubworoherane.

SC Kiyovu moved one step closer to the League title after André Landeut’s side beat Musanze FC at Ubworoherane Stadium on Sunday, May 7 in what was seen as a league title-deciding match to maintain a three-point lead over second-placed APR FC.

Burundian international Ismael Nshimirimana put the visitors upfront in the first minute, a goal they were able to defend for the entire 90 minutes.

Elsewhere, Yannick Bizimana and Alain Kwitonda scored to help APR defeat an already-relegated team, Espoir FC 2-1 at Bugesera Stadium. Joseph Janjali netted for Espoir FC.

In another expected encounter of the Rwanda Premier League’s 28th Day, Rayon Sports were held down by Gorilla FC and bid farewell to the 2022-2023 championship title. The blues lost 3-1 putting them 5 points behind Kiyovu and 2 points behind APR with 2 matches remaining.

Rayon Sports’ hopes are that both Kiyovu and APR lose their games to clinch the title which is almost impossible and the reality rules them out of the title race

In the next assignment, SC Kiyovu travels to Sunrise while APR hosts Rwamagana City. Should APR lose to Rwamagana, a win in Nyagatare will guarantee Kiyovu a title.

However, the title race can go down to the last day as expected if both teams win their games. Last season, APR-Kiyovu battle went down to the last day and APR prevailed

On the final day, APR will play Gorilla while Kiyovu will be locking Horns with Rutsiro FC.
