REG Women Basketball Club beat APR 71-63 to complete a four-game clean sweep over the defending champions and lift the 2024 Rwanda Women’s Basketball League title.

Rwanda Energy Group’s women’s team has, on Friday, October 11, dethroned APR in a lopsided seven-game finals series that culminated at Petit Stade, Remera.

REG’s season was nothing short of spectacular, as they finished at the top of the regular season and went on to achieve an undefeated playoff run.

With new coach Julian Martinez Alman, the team implemented significant changes that fueled a seven-game winning streak in the playoffs, including a 4-0 sweep of APR, the only team to have beaten them in the regular season.

In Game 4 against desperate APR, REG was down by 3 points at halftime (15-18, 15-15). But Julian Martinez’s team rallied back and seized control for the remainder of the game.

REG Women BBC outscored APR 19-13 in the third quarter and 22-17 in the fourth to close the series in style and clinch the league title.

Brigitte Nibishaka received the league MVP award during the post-game ceremony honoring the season’s top performers. The power forward from Groupe Scolaire Marie Reine Rwaza topped the scoring and rebounding charts, securing the accolade.

Jane Dusabe, last season’s MIP, was recognized as the best defensive player of the year. Rosine Cisse Micomyiza earned the title of best three-point shooter of the season, while Violette Uwimpuhwe was honored as the most improved player of the year.

Xavier Byukusenge was named the coach of the year for leading GS Marie Reine to the playoffs for the first time in their history.

Kristina Morgan King was undoubtedly named Playoffs MVP.

This title marked REG’s third championship in history, and they will represent Rwanda in Zone V alongside runners-up APR.
