Neither Simba nor Yanga can claim the Kariakoo Derby bragging rights after a 1-1 draw at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Simba and Yanga both head back home with a point to share and none of them can petition for the Kariakoo Derby bragging rights until they meet again in their second leg fixture of the Vodacom Premier League.
Both teams were evenly matched in terms of possession of the ball in the first 30 minutes of the game with equal chances at goal until Simba committed a foul in the penalty area that led to 2 yellow cards for Simba.
Micheal Sarpong took advantage of the penalty opportunity for his team and scored the first goal of the match after 32 minutes from the penalty spot. Yanga held the lead through to the end of the first half. 1st half Yanga 1-0 Simba.
Simba came back strong in the second half sharing most of the ball possession in this half plus various attacks at goal. They were awarded another yellow card later in the second half.
On the other hand, Yanga tried as much as possible to hold the lead until the dying minutes of the game. They were awarded 2 yellow cards in the second half.
Joash Onyango created a chance for Luis Miquissone to put in one and equalize for his side Simba thus denying Yanga a shot at claiming the Kariakoo Derby bragging rights today.
After 10 games played by all team in the league, Azam still has the top spot with Yanga trailing only a point behind them. Simba still a 4 points gap they need to close in order to gain an advantage against their traditional rival Yanga.
