Should we expect another impressive performance from the Silverbacks in the second round scheduled for February next year?

The Uganda senior men’s national basketball team, the Silverbacks, returned home on Tuesday, 1 December 2020 from Alexandria, Egypt where they engaged in the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers first round.

Uganda did not get off to a good start after they lost to Egypt 77-96 in the opening match of Group E. Nonetheless, Uganda came back steadfastly to defeat Morocco and Cape Verde 94-90 and 101-98 respectively. The 101 points meant that Uganda was the only country to record a 3 digit score with Egypt getting short of enjoying the same success by 1 point in their last game.

Uganda has 5 points and is 1 point behind leaders Egypt who won all of their 3 games. Standing in 2nd position means that Uganda’s chances for qualifying in the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Championship expand should the Silverbacks exhibit greater acts in the 2nd window. The Championship will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from August 24th to September 5th, 2021

The Silverbacks will rest for two weeks and locally-based players will resume non-residential training on December 15, 2020. The team plans to have two weeks of camp before the 2nd window games.
