Primus National League started, two head coaches part ways with their clubs after matchday 1

SC Kiyovu has terminated the contract with head coach Olivier Karekezi while Etincelles coach Calum Shaun Selby stepped down after Primus National League Matchday 1.

Following the defeat of SC Kiyovu in the league opener against Rutsiro FC, it was rumored that coach Olivier Karekezi would be sacked but the team denied.

Sunday evening, May 2, 2021, the Kiyovu administration issued a press release announcing the termination of their contract with the head coach Olivier Karekezi because he left the team’s Camp without informing the authorities as the club regulations say.

Karekezi who joined Kiyovu in May last year led the Mumena based club in four official matches and he only won once.

On the other side, The British coach, Calum Shaun Selby who was in charge of Etincelles FC, has decided to step down after being humiliated 5-1 by Police FC.

This is not the first time Mr. Selby has resigned from this club as he once resigned in February this year but a month later, he was re-appointed after talks with the club’s management.

Rwanda’s Primus National League is being played in a special format due to its late start. The format in which it is being played seems to be not easy for coaches to meet their employers’ needs. At the moment, all teams have title contention in mind at the group stages, but in a space of only one month, 2 teams from each group will be fighting to skip relegation.
