Angola Basketball Federation FAB finally comes through with the decision to delegate Pedro de Luanda to represent the nation in Rwanda in the AfroBasket Qualifiers scheduled for November 25th to 29th, 2020.
As mentioned early that FAB would like to delegate a club in National Team colours for the upcoming first window of the Afrobasket Qualifiers, it is confirmed that in 14 man roster named in pre-selection, 12 players including the coaching staff are from Petro de Luanda.
Petro started the preparations for BAL inaugural games scheduled in Rwanda later this year and the fact that they are ahead of other basketball clubs in Angola in terms of preparation and training, FAB opted to benefit from that freshness.
Head coach Jose Neto called players including, 38-year-old 4 times AfroBasket winner Olimpio Cipriano, former Toronto Raptors and 2013 AfroBasket MVP, Carlos Morais who is also the national team captain and on-form Yanic Moreira, one of the two foreign-based based players has also been called on the squad.
Angola has the most Afrobasket titles (11 titles) and they last won it in 2013 from Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. They are placed in Group B for the Qualifiers with Senegal, Mozambique and Kenya where 3 top teams will qualifier for the final games scheduled in September next year.
