APR Basketball Club defeated REG to move one win away from earning the league title they had sought for over a decade.
APR Basketball Club have moved an inch closer to winning the Rwanda Basketball League for the first time in a decade on Wednesday night, edging REG BBC 80-75.

KIGALI, September 6, The APR Lions moved to within one win of their first RBL title in 13 years with an 80-75 victory over the defending champions, taking a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.

Dean Murray’s REG BBC looked lost tonight as they had been behind since the beginning of the game and never reversed the flow of the game. They will need to hustle in tandem to prevent a sweep on Friday when they play a do-or-die game against an intimidating foe with a deep roster

Axel Mpoyo had 16 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists – his first double-double in the 2023 BetPawa Playoffs, Ntore Habimana contributed 15 points in the win

Either REG is a one-man squad or Adonis Filer is the greatest player in the league. He had a game-high 28 points last night and is averaging 22.6 in the 2023 RBL Playoffs. No one else comes close to these figures.

APR currently leads by 3-0, In what has been a fantastic collective effort, Ntore leads today, Nshobozwa leads tomorrow, and Mpoyo leads the following day. The Lions have dominated the electricians throughout this series.

A Maz Trakh coached-side has the potential to win the championship in Game 4 on Friday at Kigali’s BK Arena (9 p.m. CAT), and it has put itself in a good position. No club in RBL history has come back from a three-game deficit to win a best-of-seven playoff finals series.
