APR’s power forward Axel Mpoyo delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an impressive 30 points solely from three-pointers in their 101-69 victory over the Titans in a RBL game.
At LDK Gymnasium on June 21st, APR Basketball Club secured an emphatic 32-point victory over the K Titans in the Rwanda Basketball League, leaving their opponents devastated and propelling themselves to the top of the league just ahead of the Patriots’ upcoming match against Kepler tomorrow.
Defending champions APR Basketball showed no mercy to the struggling K Titans, handing them a decisive 101-69 defeat at Lycée de Kigali. Initially slow, APR allowed their opponents to score easily, conceding a total of 22 points in the first quarter.
However, coached by Mazen Trakh, APR bounced back in the second quarter, taking a 7-point lead into halftime (22-22, 25-18).
The K Titans, struggling with a 1-11 record including a forfeit, couldn’t keep up with APR’s pace in the third quarter, scoring only 18 points compared to APR’s 27. The momentum continued in the final quarter as APR scored another 27 points while limiting the K Titans to just 11, sealing their victory with a convincing 101-69 score line.
In his 27 minutes on the court, Rwanda international power forward Axel Mpoyo led APR with 30 points, all of them coming from three-pointers. Mpoyo made 10 threes out of 18 attempts, contributing significantly to his team’s fifth consecutive league win.
On the opposing side, Kurt Douglass Hall Jr. of the K Titans scored a game-high 35 points on 14-32 field goals.
APR BBC remains undefeated in the Rwanda Basketball League since March 20, when they suffered a 73-59 loss to the Patriots, halting a streak of 14 consecutive wins. They now boast a five-game winning streak and hold an overall record of 11-1 in the league.
The Titans are teetering on the brink of relegation, currently sitting 9th out of 10 teams in the league standings.
Today’s victory secures APR’s first-place position, pending the outcome of tomorrow’s game between the Patriots and Kepler at LDK Gymnasium. Depending on that result, APR could move to second place unless the Patriots forfeit.
The competition for the top four spots in the Rwanda Basketball League is heating up, with only four teams advancing to the playoffs to determine the league champions.
