AS Kigali claimed a potentially vital win in a thrilling Primus National League clash against neighbours Kiyovu by handing them a 4-0 heavy defeat today, November 2 at Kigali Stadium.
The Citizens got off to a great start scoring early in the game and delivering Kiyovu an early setback. It only took AS Kigali six minutes to find the back of the net through the midfield maestro, Haruna Niyonzima.
2 minutes later, defender, Dennis Rukundo doubled the lead thanks to poor goalkeeping on the side of the Mumena based club, SC Kiyovu.
The Green and whites did not manage to pull one back but instead were hit with another goal in 16 minutes of the game. A powerful header from Lawal Aboubacar. 3-0 at the break and heartbreak for Kiyovu fans expecting high performance from their new recruits include Ugandan duo, Emmanuel Okwi and Muzamiru Mutyaba.
In the second half, AS Kigali continued to apply pressure until the 85th minute when the substitute Ramadhan Niyibizi scored on a rebound to make it 4. For this goal, SC Kiyovu’s GK and skipper should have done better again. He clearly showed a lack of fitness.
In a post-match interview, Kiyovu head coach, Francis Haringingo said that a short time of warm-up cost him the first half. “we had only 12 minutes of warm-up due to the late finish of the first match. Technically, the team’s poor warm-up affected our start” said Haringingo
In today’s early kick-off at Kigali Stadium, Amimu Nahimana fired Marine FC level against Gorilla FC, minutes after coming on as a sub. Jean Claude Nizeyimana had scored for Gorilla.
Elsewhere in Huye district, Mukura drew Gasogi 1-1
Tomorrow, the defending champions, APR host Musanze at Kigali Stadium while Rayon Sports will travel to Rubavu to lock horns with Rutsiro.
