The Futsal Association of Uganda FAU together with the Uganda Youth Football Association are working on a project that will bring the new sport to the youth.

The leaders of the youngest and fast-growing sport in the country, Futsal, are taking the initiative to see that the youth in the country pick an interest by partnering with the Uganda Youth Football Association.

In a meeting at FUFA SIG held on Friday, November 27th, 2020, the shareholders of the two associations discussed the roadmap of the project. The major aspects of the project included competition, coaching, and refereeing.

The associations determined that a youth/academy futsal competition for both boys and girls under the ages 13 and 15 should be set up which is tentatively scheduled for April 2021. To support the youth teams’ technical growth, a Futsal Coaching Course firstly at beginners level for academy coaches will be held in February 2021 and last a refereeing course at beginners level will be organized in order to deal with the scarcity of referees for the competitions. This covers the key aspects of the project.

Futsal is not so different from soccer as the basics of playing the sport involve kicking the ball only that futsal is an indoor sport played at a much small scale with the technical rules changing from those of football.

Football has attracted my youth talents in Uganda and the similarities of the two sports should see an easy transition from soccer to futsal. FAU continues to grow its alliances in order to introduce and grow the game as per its strategic plan.
