FKF Premier 2020/2021 League To Kick-Off Soon After A Conclusion Reached By FKF.
Football Kenya Federation, the football governing body of Kenya on Friday, 9th October 2020, met and determined the commencement of the upcoming 2020/2021 national league. The decision comes putting into consideration the need to guarantee that the campaign starts inline with the global football calendar.
Sports in the country was put on hold in mid-March owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The government lifted the ban on sports later in September seeing teams like champions Gor Mahia go into early training as they are representing Kenya in the CAF Champions League.
When the government lifted the ban on sports, contact sports were to remain closed as they posed a threat to the spread of the virus. Football was categorized under low-risk contact sports.
Despite the guidelines announced by ports Cabinet Secretary(CS), Amina Mohamed, FKF managed to engage the government to allow the national team to participate in friendly games in preparation for the AFCON Qualifiers doubleheader against Comoros. Kenya recently played a friendly match against Zambia, a game they won 2-1 controversially with Coach Micho reiterated that VAR is needed in Football.
The league organisers have affirmed that the upcoming 2020-21 campaign will commence on November 21st, 2020 a few days after AFCON Qualifiers leg 2 matches, following the fixtures released today.
