Gisagara win Taxpayers’ tourney, Malinga crowned tournament MVP

Sunday, November 28, 2021, in Kigali Arena, a tax payers appreciation tournament organized by Rwanda Revenue Authority in collaboration with Rwanda Volleyball Federation concluded. Malinga’s Gisagara triumphed over APR VC 3-1 to secure the trophy.

After producing a sensational performance against United VC in the semi-finals to secure their place in this final, The Rwandan League title holders, APR Volleyball Club faced Gisagara Volleyball Club in an eye-catching final game.

APR VC were brilliant in the first set, pummeling Gisagara 25-17 but Gisagara district-sponsored club reacted and come back strong in the second set then controlled the rest of the match to win 3-1. 14-25, 21-25 and 21-25

In Petit Stade, former UTB VC, now United VC claimed the third spot after beating KVC 3-1 (25-21, 29-31, 25-20, 25-16).

The best performing players of the tournament were named and honoured during the closing ceremony after the final match. Former Nkumba University and Ugandan outside hitter, Kathbart Malinga emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

In women’s category, RRA VC won a five-set thriller over United VC to be crowned champions of the Taxpayers Volleyball Tournament.

Earlier, APR VC mastered a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-13) win over KVC to secure the women’s third place.

During the medal ceremony for the women’s, Benitha Mukandayisenga was recognized as the best player of the entire tournament, MVP

Besides the Trophies, the winners both in men and women pocketed 2 Millions Rfw as the prize money, while the first runners up collected 1.5 M Rfw each and the third-place winners received 1M check

Next on the agenda is the Gisagara Pre-season tournament scheduled from 4th December in Gisagara Gymnasium.
