Kenneth Gasana’s distinguished performance helps Rwanda log yet another win as host of the continent’s most prestigious basketball tournament, AfroBasket.
Rwanda has proven to be a force to be reckoned with after a second win in the AfroBasket 2021 that propels them to the top of Group A. This comes at the expense of Angola who suffers yet another loss after losing 71-77 to Cape Verde.
As the final score (68-71) states, it was a close game, there was nothing between Angola and Rwanda when the 1st quarter ended and half-time only had Angola lead by 3 points.
Angola went ahead to stretch the lead in the 3rd quarter and at this point, they were favorites to win the match. However, Rwanda was not ready to let it slip easily.
Angola had the 6 minutes down into the 4th quarter but that to a 3 pointer by Jean Jacques, Rwanda took the lead and never turned back. The main turning point of the game was at 1 minute to go, score (68-68) when Alex Mpoyo made a 3 pointer that would later have them win the match 68-71.
With all that said, Kenneth Gasana should be the man to receive most of the credit for helping his side execute the perfect plan to plunge Angola to the bottom of the table.
Head coach, Cheikh Sarr’s tactics of playing Kenneth Gasana for almost the entire game paid off. Kenneth played 36 minutes which was more than any other player who stepped foot to play on the court.
Kenneth Gasana went ahead to top the score charts with 18 points and 4 steals.
Angola hopes to log their first win in the upcoming Group A match against Congo DR while Rwanda might go unbeaten in the group stages should they win the encounter with Cape Verde. Both games will be played on Saturday, August 28th, 2021.
