Medie Kagere on fire as Simba thrashed JKT.

Rwandan international striker Medie Kagere helped Simba collect 3 points at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.

In Matchday 5 of the Vodacom Premier League, JKT hosted the giants SC Simba. Simba dominated the game from the beginning to the end of the match. Meddie Kagere opened the score three minutes after the kick-off with a header. Three minutes later, Congolese striker Chris Mugalu netted the second goal with a header again.

Before half time, Medie Kagere also known as MK14, scored his brace and the third for his team thanks to Chama’s clever pass then Luis Miquissone scored the fourth in the second half.

The victory took Wekundu wa Msimbazi to second place behind the invincible Azam FC. Meddie Kagere scored the 3rd and 4th goals of the season, he is now the club’s top scorer and 2nd in the league with 1 goal behind the Zimbabwean Striker, Prince Dube who plays for Azam FC.

Elsewhere, Rwandan National Team Skipper, Haruna Niyonzima helped Young Africans beat the Coastal Union 3-0. Calinhos and Songne scored other goals. Despite the win, Young Africans decided to part ways with their head coach Zlatko Krmpotic after 37 days. With Zlatko, Young played 5 league games, they won 4 games and drew 1 game but Dar es salaam based club is not satisfied with the football quality and Cloakroom management.

The unstoppable Azam continue winning streak with 4-2 victory over Kagera Sugar at Chamazi Stadium. Prince Dube scored a brace (6 th and 87th), Aubrey Chirwa on 47th and Richard Djodi on 51′ for Azam while Luhende and Mhilu scored for Kagera Sugar in the 34th and on 51st minutes respectively. Azam is on top of  the table with 15 points

Napsa Stars Football Club Organizes a Pre-season Tournament.

With the Support of Zambia FA, Napsa Stars Football Club organized a Pre Season tournament.

In preparation for the Africa Inter-club tournaments, Lusaka based team, Napsa organized a mini-tournament inviting Zambia’s representatives in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. The tournament will take place at The National Heroes Stadium and is meant to prepare NAPSA Stars FC and the invited teams for Continental competitions as well as the 2020/2021Football Association Of Zambia (FAZ) Super League Season that is supposed to start in the last week of October.

Among the invited teams; Forest Rangers FC, Green Eagles FC, Zanaco FC, Indeni FC, Green Buffaloes FC have confirmed the participation of this so-called big six Preseason Preparatory Tournament.

Zambia will be represented by Nkana and Forest rangers in CAF Champions league while Green Aigles and Napsa stars Football Club will be the flagbearers in CAF Conferation Cup. Nkana will not participate in this tournament that is why they invited the Army side, Green Buffaloes. Indeni FC from Ndola have been welcome back to the topflight league by inviting them to the tournament to make it six. Indeni FC were promoted to the Zambia Super league after a 6-years’ absence. This team last appeared in Zambian top league in 2014 season.

The teams have been divided into 2 groups of 3 and the will play group games then playoffs games for rankings.

South Africa Football Team Coach Molefi Ntseki Announces Bafana Bafana Squad for Upcoming International Matches.

Bafana Bafana coach Ntseki on this Friday, October 2, 2020, revealed the team’s squad for the upcoming International matches against Brave Warriors of Namibia and Chipolopolo of Zambia at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

In preparation for the Africa Cup of Nation Qualifiers scheduled for November, South Africa coach Molefi Ntseki has named a 25-man squad to play preparatory games against Namibia on October 8 and on October 11 against Zambia, both games at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

The list, released by coach Ntseki, did not feature regular players such as Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, defender Eric Mathoho, left-back Thabo Matlaba and George Maluleka, all of whom are local-based players and had been called up to the squad to face Sao Tome in March 2020 but the match could not be played due to COVID 19.

However, players like Thibang Phete 26, Ricardo Goss 26, Kurt Abrahams 23, were handed their first call-ups in Bafana Bafana. Surprisingly 31-year-old Golden Arrows defender, Gladwin Shitolo has been handed his first national team call-up too.

Bafana Bafana is preparing the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome in November. While the Brave Warriors of Namibia will play against Mali in the same format.

The Zambia head coach, Milutin Sredojevic has opted to use local players for the friendly matches against South Africa and Malawi on October 7, as Zambia is preparing for the African Nations Championship scheduled in January 2021. Zambia that does not stand well in the AFCON Qualifiers Group H. They have a double fixture against Botswana in November.

Rwanda flag-bearers in Africa Inter-club tournaments, APR FC and AS Kigali allowed to start training.

The Ministry of Sports on September 28, 2020, issued a statement authorizing the resumption of sports activities. It stated that every concerned federation is required to submit a timetable. This timetable should include training and competitions of its member clubs and associations before the commencement of activities.

It is in this context that the Ministry of Sports responded to the request from Rwanda FA to permit its member clubs, APR FC and AS Kigali to start training. In the letter, the ministry of sports allowed the teams to start training as long as they respect the COVID-19 return to play guidelines.

APR FC tested their players, coaches and all staff members while AS Kigali also announced that the squad members will be tested soon and put in camp and start training.

APR FC clinched the league title last season which gives them a slot to represent Rwanda in the CAF Champions league while AS Kigali season finished in sixth place but having won the last Peace Cup to be played and concluded, entitles them to represent Rwanda in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Primus League Matchday 5 – Inter Star host Aigle Noir.

Burundi football continues with matchday 5 Primus League on Friday 2nd October 2020 before the international break next week. Since Monday last week, players called for national duty had been training but returned to play for their respective clubs in matchday 5 Primus League. They will return to camp for a friendly with Tanzania on Sunday, 11th October 2020 as they prepare intensively for their AFCON Qualifier encounter with Mauritania on Monday, 9th November 2020.

The first game beginning matchday 5, will be between Inter star of Bujumbura and Aigle noir from Makamba, starting at 3pm local time at the Intwari Stadium. Inter star are in 9th place with 4 points while Aigle Noir are in 7th place with 7 points. Despite being lower in the table, Aigle Noir will move to first place if they win this match.

Statistics show that since 2015, the two teams have met 8 times. Aigle noir won 5 games, they drew 2games and inter star won 1 game. In the 4 games that brought them together at Intwari Stadium, Inter Star won only one game, 1draw and lost 2 games. The last match between them at this stadium was 1-1. Inter Star’s last win against Aigle Noir was in September 2019 while Aigle Noir last beat Inter Star at Stade Intwari was in 2016.

The Fighters ( Aigle Noir) will rely on the on-form striker, Nzojibwami John Frank who has scored 3 out of 5 goals the team scored this season. Inter Star are not in good shape. In the 4 games, they conceded 6 goals with no clean sheet in this season even if they have not yet lost at home while Aigle noir has no away win from the start of this season.

Premier Super League – PSL 2020/2021 season set to kick-off this month, October. The PSL Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza announced that the new campaign will commence this month. The season will start with the MTN 8 on Saturday, 17th October 2020. This will be followed by the new DSTV Premiership on Saturday, 24th October 2020.

MTN 8

The MTN 8 is the South African Football Cup Competition played by the top 8 at the end of the Premiership. SuperSport United who finished 6th in the recently concluded campaign holds the current MTN 8 title.

DSTV Premiership

New-launched DSTV Premiership is the top flight football competition in South Africa that houses 16 teams. Only less than a month ago, Mamelodi Sundowns won their tenth title finishing 2 points ahead of rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

“We are currently waiting for the new directives from the government. I would like to thank the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, SAFA and our sponsors for their cooperation in this process,” Dr Khoza said.

Happy first year anniversary to the North Irish football manager from Lisburn. Jonathan McKinstry has coached in several countries, including, Northern Ireland, England, USA, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Lithuania, Bangladesh and Uganda. He has held international roles in Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Uganda. He is the first-ever North Irish man to coach three nations

Sierra Leone.

Jonathan Mckinstry became the youngest international head coach in the world after he was appointed as manager of Sierra Leone in 2013. Sierra Leone achieved their highest FIFA ranking under the North Irish man. He was later sacked in 2014 following defeats during a period when the country was banned from hosting games because of 2014 Ebola Outbreak.

Rwanda.

In 2015 Mckinstry was named head coach of the Rwanda football national team. He was crowned Coach of the Tournament after Rwanda finished as Runners-up in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup 2015. He helped Rwanda stand in 1st place of Group A in of the CAF African Nations Championships. Rwanda also defeated Mauritius 5–0 in Kigali but later in 2016, McKinstry was dismissed as head coach.

Uganda (Currently)

Happy first year anniversary to Jonathan Mckinstry as he makes one year as the Uganda football National team Head Coach. He signed the deal after leaving Bangaladesh club Saif FC. The North Irish man has guided the team in 10 games with 9 wins, 1 draw and no loses so far. He also led the country to win the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup 2019 hosted in Kampala.

Sports in Rwanda Re-opens – Basketball Taking The Lead

The Minstry of Sports announced that from Monday, September 28, 2020, all sports activities will be allowed to resume. The Federation of Rwanda Basketball (FERWABA) to resume its activities before other federations in the contact sports category.

In an open letter to the federations, the Ministry of Sports said that sports in Rwanda would be opened prior to the grant based on a request outlining the proposed measures to prevent and prevent COVID-19.

The Basketball and Football federations have already submitted their plans to the Ministry for the resumption of games following Coronavirus guidelines. The Rwanda FA pushed back on the previously set date for the start of the season. FERWABA wants to conclude the 2019-2020 Season.

In the rules/regulations of the newly created tournament to conclude 2019-2020 season, the FERWABA announced that general training is expected to begin on 1st October. This means that basketball teams are going to be the first to resume group training in the contact sports category.

Those regulations are divided into 3 categories:

1. About training

Training begins on October 1st. Each team will reveal 20 members (players, coaches and staff) who have tested negative for COVID-19. These will be confirmed by the technical and the medical commission.

2. About Camping

On October 16th, each team composed of 18 members (players, coaches and staff) will go in for residential camp after being tested COVID-19. One day later, they will receive the results and those who are tested positive will be excluded in the camp. In the camp no player, coach or other members of the team will be allowed to leave or be visited. Doctors will monitor camp participants for no evidence of COVID-19.

3. During the tournament

The games will take place at Kigali Arena 18th – 24th October and the tournament will follow the General Rules of the competition of FERWABA and FIBA.

The players, coaches and staff members punished for misconduct will be subject to penalties that may include suspension for all remaining matches of the tournament and immediate dismissal. Other penalties may also be extended after the FERWABA representatives’ report on the game has been made and has been reviewed by the relevant committee.
The team that will refuse to play any match scheduled for any reason will be fined Rwf500,000.

Everyone in the camp, before and after training sessions, before and after matches should adhere to the strategies to prevent and avoid COVID-19 (Wear the face masks, wash hands, keep distance between one another)

The BK National Basketball League and all other sports activities were suspended on March 15, 2020, in order to prevent the Coronavirus.

Coastal Union – First 3 points of The Vodacom Campaign.

In the last match of Vodacom Premier League round 4, Coastal Union picked 3 points at JKT’s cost. Edson Katanga put the ball in the back of his own net in the 87th minute of the game.

After this win, both Coastal Union and JKT share 4 points, 1 win, 1 draw and 2 loses. They will also face big-name clubs in their upcoming fixtures. Coastal Union will travel to Dar-es-Salaam to meet 3rd placed Young Africans at At Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium. JKT will host now 2nd placed SC Simba.

Yesterday, Sunday, Young Africans were at Jamhuri Stadium, home to Mtibwa Sugar. One goal from skipper Lamine Moro separated the two sides. He scored it from the corner well taken by Carlinhos. The same scenario happened on matchday 2 against Mbeya City.

SC Simba the former champions were favourite ahead of their opponents, Gwambina FC who mostly played a defensive game. 40 minutes after kickoff whistle, Rwandan striker Meddie Kagere opened the score with a powerful header from Luis Miquissone’s corner. Pascal Wawa netted from a free-kick at 50 minutes before Chris Mugalu who came off the bench, found the net in the additional time to make it 3-0.

SC Simba have 10 points in 4 matches, and they are the best attacking team of the league with Meddie Kagere, Chris Mugalu and Clatous Chama all sharing 2 goals on scorer chart.

Azam FC continue to enjoy a perfect winning streak, recording the fourth consecutive win against Tanzania Prisons.  Four matches, four wins and they have not conceded a single goal this season. What a perfect start!

Vital’O Finally Register Their First Win

BURUNDI: Flambeau Hold On To Table Summit Seat As Primus League continues

Vital’O, the most successful club in Burundian football, on 27th September registered their first 3 points of the Primus League campaign 2020/2021. This happened in the 4th round at Intwari stadium in Bujumbura.

Before they were hosted Flambeau du Centre, Vital’O was last in the rankings. They got off to a good start with 2 goals in the first ten minutes. The goals were scored by Tresor Shyaka and Ndabarinze Felicien in the 5th and 9th minutes respectively. Vital’O controlled the game for the rest of the time.

Vital’O moved up to 15th place from the last place. They will travel to the north of the country in Ngozi province to face former champions Le Messager. 10th placed Flambeau with 4 points will host Les Elephants.

Elsewhere, Musongati FC with 10 points have only drawn once against Les Elephants at Urunani stadium in Cibitoke province. They are at the top of the table.
