Micheal Sarpong scored the only goal of the game

Tanzania giants Young Africans SC threaten to sit at the summit where Azam FC have been shaken.

Young Africans SC do not seem to want to end their winning spree. With a series of consecutive wins in their last 6 matches, Young are on to something not short of an unbeaten record. It is a little bit too early in the league campaign though.

In a match where Young travelled to Musoma to face Biashara, the former registered yet another win to make 6 in a row. Forward Micheal Sarpong through the assistance Ditram Nchimbi, scored the only goal of the game at 68 minutes, therefore, winning 1-0. Biashara put up a good fight but picked up 3 yellow cards due to various fouls in the game.

Young has collected 22 points from the 8 games played with one game in hand over Azam who sit at the summit of the table. Young threaten Azam who has not been at their best form in the last fixtures. Azam has dropped 5 points in their previous encounters paving way for Young to claim a seat at the top.

Young seem unstoppable but we are yet to find out if they will register their first loss of the season they will travel to meet Gwambina FC on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020, and then in a huge match against traditional rival Simba FC on Saturday. November 7th, 2020.

Vodacom Premier League giants Simba FC and Young Africans SC trust they can gain a mile from their game in hand in their next fixture.

Young African FC are favourites in this advantage fixture. They have an incredible form of not losing a single one of their 7 games with 6 wins and 1 draw. Young are behind now leaders, Azam FC who have lost to Mtibwa Sugar 1-0 and drew with confident JKT 1-1 yesterday at Azam complex.

Azam FC’s helm at the top hangs in the balance as rivals Young Africans have two fixtures in hand against the former. Young will need to win all two games or win one and draw the other to gain an advantage over Azam FC. Young have 19 points after 7 games whereas Azam have 22 points after 9 games.

Young Africans today Saturday, October 31st, 2020, travel to Musoma to face 3rd place and tough Biashara. the hosts have gathered 16 points after 8 games and given the home advantage that they have, Young will have to bring forth an outstanding performance to return home with a win or even better a draw.

Young’s traditional rivals Simba FC have not had the best form after they dropped six points in their last two fixtures. This puts them in 5th points with more than six points behind rivals Azam FC and Young.

Champions Simba will host relegation zone Mwadui in Dar-es-Salaam at Uhuru stadium today Saturday, October 31st, 2020. Simba hope to take advantage of Mwadui’s healing wounds aa they fell prey to JKT in a 6-1 loss at home. Mwadui have 9 points after 8 games and it will take quite a lot of effort from them to secure points from hungry Simba FC. However, Simba will not have a walk in the park with Mwadui’s experienced players.

Simba will not have their club top scorer Medie Kagere who is out injured back home in Rwanda but they will have their mid-field maestro Cletus Chama who did not feature in thier last two lost fixtures.

Azam FC in yet another set back as they drop another 2 points at Azam complex after hosting confident JKT.

In the second fixture of the day for the Vodacom Premier League, Azam FC was faced with out of relegation zone and confident JKT. The match ended in a draw with both teams sharing a point. This should be a result most likely not welcome to Azam FC’s side as they risk relinquishing their position at the top to Young Africans SC.

JKT held Azam FC very well in this match as they made various attacks at their opponent’s goal in the first half of the game. These attacks paid off in the 44th minute when Micheal Aidan put one in the back fo the net.

Azam FC struggled to contain their weaker opponent but later retaliated late in the game at 78 minutes after forward Never Tigere assisted Salum Abubakar to equalise for his team but they still drop 2 very crucial points.

Azam FC still holds 1st position with 9 games and 22 points, which is a close 3 points ahead of rivals Young Africans who have 19 points with two games in hand. Young Africans have won all their 5 previous matches and if they continue with this form, they will most probably snatch the top position from Azam FC.

As for now, 12th placed JKT, this was a result they accepted gladly. JKT head coach Abdallah Bares wished for nothing short of this as his side now move up to 12th position from 15th. They sail safely out of the relegation zone and hope Coastal Union FC and Mwadui who they beat 6-1 don’t win their next fixtures.

Azam FC will host 8th placed Dodoma FC in their next fixture on Thursday, November 5th, 2020, while JKT will travel to Namungo FC on Wednesday, November 4th, 2020.

In other matches of the day, Gwambina FC hosted KMC FC in a game the latter won by 3 goals to none. The first goal for KMC FC was scored by Lusajo Mwaikenda at 44 minutes followed by Reliants Lusajo at 88 minutes and the third goal two minutes later by David Brayson.

Current table leaders Azam FC lock horns with JKT who registered a 6-1 win against Mwadui in their previous fixture.

Table leaders Azam FC, today lock horns with 15th placed JKT in the Vodacom Premier League. Azam FC was on a winning streak with after they recorded 7 wins in 7 games but this was brought to an end when they visited Mtibwa Sugar on Monday where they lost 1-0 at Jamhuri stadium.

On the side, struggling JKT exhibited an astonishing performance when they visited Mwagui at Mwadui Complex and bagged 3 points after a 6-1 win. This win was not good enough for them to stand above Mwadui in the table as they are 15th with 8 points after 8 games one point short of Mwadui.

Azam FC are in a tight position and are at risk of dropping the No.1 to Young African who have a game in hand and only 2 points short of the leaders. Azam will host JKT today Friday, October 30, 2020, at 7.00 pm East African Time (EAT) at Azam Complex in a match they surely have to win.

Azam FC have expressed confidence and assurance that they will return to their winning ways in their next fixture. Azam are with their lead striker Prince Dube who has so far netted 6 while JKT stands with Adam, the only player in the league who has scored a HATTRICK!

JKT head coach Abdallah Bares knows that this fixture will be one to keep him on his toes but he is confident his side will not the points but rather walk back home with 3.

APR to face UTB in the Rwanda Volleyball National League women’s playoff final.

It has been decided in the RVNL women’s side that APR will meet UTB at the final.

This was achieved after APR WVC won their second match against RRA. APR again played the decisive set in the match which lasted 2hrs and 30 minutes. RRA won the first set at 25-17, APR immediately regained its strength by winning 2 sets in a row 25-23 and 25-16 then RRA reacted and forced them to play a decisive after winning set 4, 25-21. APR overpowered them on the fifth set with 17-15. APR in two games has recorded two wins and 4 points, which guaranteed them to play in the final.

This was followed by a snappy win by UTB 3-0 over KVC. Unlike the previous game, in this match, the teams were not on the same level. KVC had only seven players. The scores were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-11 in the third set.

APR VC is back in the final since 2018, to face defending champions UTB WVC. The unfit RRA will face off KVC for third place. Games are scheduled on Saturday, October 31 but the teams will have to complete the group stage games on Friday in what looks like a meaningless fixture.

Gisagara VC start with revenge against their rivals REG VC

Gisagara VC against REG VC

Gisagara Volleyball Club starts the playoffs with revenge against their rivals REG Volleyball Club.

Almost 8 months have passed since the last time the spikes were hit in the Rwanda Volleyball National League. REG who were on top before the National League was halted did not have an easy start in playoffs where they started by losing to their rivals Gisagara VC.

3-0 straight sets is not the results that everyone expected in the match of the day between the finalists from last season. REG had only 11 players in this match and left attacker Christopher Mukunzi was absent most probably because he has parted ways with the team. Gisagara, led by head coach Pierre Kwizera who is a former REG player, won the game with clear dominance, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22. It was retaliation for Gisagara following that they lost to REG in last season’s playoff finals where the latter clinched the title 2-1 (best of 3)

In other matches of the day, APR VC upset UTB giants 3-1. APR started high winning set 1 25-14 and then set 25-18. Set 3, UTB led by Fidel Nyirimana reacted by winning 25-22. APR VC finally won set 4 25-23. UTB was without the services of Cameroonian Sime Mbappe Julliard.

In the women’s category, the defending champions, UTB defeated RRA 3-0 before APR WVC overthrow KVC in a five-set thriller.
