Nsereko Sharif scored the first goal of the tournament at the opening game of the Airtel Masaza Cup 2020.
The Kabaka of Buganda Muwenda Mutebi II today officially launched the Airtel Masaza Cup 2020 at a colorful FUFA Technical Center, Njeru. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, SOPs were out in place followed by a few journalists, teams, and executives from the Buganda kingdom who were in attendance leaving the fans out to watch the action on their screens.
The first match of the cup at 3 pm was between defending champions Bulemeezi and Butambala. Nsereko Sharif scored the first goal of the tournament for Butambala 23 minutes after kickoff leaving the defending champions Bulemeezi in a dilemma. However, Bulemeezi returned to the second half with full force as Kateregga Bernado scored an equalizer at the 75th minute, and ending the match in a draw.
“First, I would like to thank the organizing committee of the competitions and my bosses because this is not an easy time but we have managed to work together to yield something from the players. We did not have enough time but still managed to prepare,” Said Butambala coach Emuron Recoba.
“I promise our fans that we shall manage to go past the group stages. I told the boys that we are going to play the defending champions but they are the normal players. They did not go to South Africa to get players but rather used local players. So, we can handle them,” the coach added
The action returns tomorrow ( 13th/12/2020 still with group Butikiro, Ssingo vs Buluuli at 12:00 pm, FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
