Olivier Shyaka seals REG BBC first BKBNL Playoff Final game with heroic 30 point performance against the defending champions, Patriots.
REG BBC led by former Patriots head coach, Henry Mwinuka, recorded the first win of Bank of Kigali Basketball National League Playoff final games after defeating their arch-rivals Patriots 66-63.
In this game, REG Forward, Olivier Shyaka had a great night scoring 30 points, with 61% FG. He shot 8 for 13 from the field and made an unbelievable 10 of 13 free throws. a spectacular performance from Rwanda National team captain to raise the confidence for the electricians to lift their second basketball title since 2016.
However, it’s not how it starts, it’s how it ends. In the 2016-2017 season, the Patriots bounced back from losing game 1 to win the next three games and claim the playoff title and this was against REG BBC.
In the 2018-2019 season, REG BBC started well in the best of seven series by winning three games to one against the Patriots, however, the Patriots cut the deficit and forced a seventh game after falling behind 3–1 in the series. Patriots beat them in game 7.
Will history repeat itself? Let us wait to see if the Patriots can force a game 3.
BKBNL Playoff Final game 2 is scheduled this Saturday at 7 pm in Kigali Arena and if necessary, game 3 on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the same venue.
