Patriots and REG BBC swept their opponents to secure spots in the BKBNL Playoffs finals and this will be the fifth in a row since 2016 that the two clubs meet each other in the final.
Patriots advanced to the Bank of Kigali Basketball National League finals by downing APR BBC 69-56 on the road on Sunday evening. Patriots swept the two-way series as they had registered a 71-56 win in the first game on Saturday.
In today’s win of 69-56 (19-19, 14-11, 15-09 and 21-17), Dieudonné Ndizeye paced the winners with 18 points. Both Steven Hagumintwali and Guibert Nijimbere contributed 17 while Aubin Junior Kasongo had 17 for APR BBC.
In this match, the Patriots’ power forward, Bienvenu Niyonsaba was ejected with 7 minutes to end the third quarter. The former APR Captain was issued a technical foul followed by an unsportsmanlike foul handed in the first quarter.
On the other side, REG BBC swept IPRC Kigali in an easy way. 70-42 on Saturday and 63-49 on Sunday. REG had no services from Quinton Meddrick.
The defending champions will rub shoulders with their arch-rivals, REG BBC in 3 games to determine the best of three game series. This will be the fifth year in a row for these Basketball rivals to face off in the BK National League playoffs final to decide Rwanda’s Champions. The finals are set to tip off on Friday, October 29.
Patriots have handled REG well over the years they met at the finals.
