Police FC overcame a challenging afternoon at Muhanga Stadium to maintain their perfect run in Rwanda Premier League through a narrow 2-1 win over Sunrise
SUNDAY – Muhanga Stadium, in Rwanda Premier League matchday 21, Police FC held off a spirited Sunrise comeback as Babuwa Samson’s brilliant effort set up a tense second half, in which Yafesi Mubiri and Vedaste Niyibizi missed excellent opportunities to give Nyagatare-based team a point.
Danny Usengimana broke the deadlock a minute after the kickoff. 14 minutes later, Didier Mugisha doubled the lead for the cops
Mugisha scored from a fine pass from former Sunrise striker, Osée Iyabivuze
The goal was followed by an altercation between the Sunrise FC players and the referees, due to the annoyance from the referees’ decisions. as a consequence, Vedaste Niyibizi get booked.
In the half-time break, Evariste Ntamugabumwe, the sunrise caretaker made a double change, Babuwa Samson and Rodrigue Murengezi come on for Pius Wanji and Moses Nyamurangwa. The subs changed the game and Sunrise start to dominate Police.
8 minutes of the second half were enough for Babuwa Samson to find the back of the nets as He imposed his physical attributes to dribble past Moussa Omar and make it 2-1
Sunrise had opportunities to get back into the contest, most notably in 62 minutes when Babuwa faced Rihungu however he fired his efforts high over the bar and Vincent Mashami’s men condemned them to the ninth loss of the season
The fourth win in row moves Police FC up to the 6th in the league, 2 points behind 4th placed team AS Kigali.
Elsewhere at Ubworoherane Stadium, APR bagged the away three points against Musanze to maintain the league top spot. Gilbert Mugisha (2) and Yannick Bizimana got on the scoresheet
