REG Volleyball Club held off APR Volleyball Club in an exciting five-set match to successfully complete the opening round.
KIMISAGARA, April 24, The Volleyball Fans were on the edge of their seats during the five-set thriller between REG and APR VC, and in the end, the defending champions, REG Volleyball Club fought hard to secure a thrilling victory to cap off the weekend in grand fashion.
The excitement and tension could be felt even before the game started between the former champions, APR Volleyball Club and reining champions, REG Volleyball Club
It was a close game from start to finish with the electricians taking the first set 25-23.
Elie Mutabazi’s APR rebounded after losing the first set to win the second. The set was considerably tighter than expected since the two teams fought tooth and nail the entire time. However, the army team prevailed 26–24.
The same to second set, the third one was another thriller. Despite tying the set 24-24, the defending champions fell 26-24 again as the match headed to a fourth set.
In a very quick set, Pierre Marshal Kwizera and his REG team refused to go away, leading for most of the fourth set and took it 25-17 to force a deciding set.
In the last set, there was a lot of tension and excitement. With points being exchanged back and forth, the fifth set was quite similar to the second and third. However The REG Volleyball Club ultimately defeated the APR 16-14 to take both the set and the game.
The 3-2 set win helped REG finish the first round on a good note, as did Gisagara VC, who defeated a strong Police team 3-1.
Yakan’s Gisagara leads the way after the first round, followed by REG Volleyball and APR in second and third place, respectively.
The next stop is in Gisagara for the second round scheduled between 29-30 April 2023
