As part of intensifying preparations for AfroBasket scheduled in Rwanda in three weeks, Rwanda will take a long trip to Senegal to play International friendly games against Senegal and Guinea before a double encounter against Egypt in Kigali Arena.

After two weeks of camping, Rwanda Head Coach, Dr. Cheikh Sarr has summoned the 17 men to travel ahead of the friendly series lined up for the team just before the 2021 AfroBasket set to be held in Kigali from August 24 to September 5, 2021.

Speaking to the Media, Dr. Sarr said, “ This is a good opportunity for us to measure our competencies. We have not had the chance to do it here. We did some scrimmage games but going to Senegal will give us the opportunity to play against NBA players that are playing at a high level”

Rwanda is set to leave for Dakar on Friday, August 6, and will return after 10 days. They will later take on a double encounter against Egypt as the final preparations for the main event.

Senegal under the guidance of Boniface Ndong who named a strong roster including two NBA players is in camp training at Marius Ndiaye stadium and they plan to use this tournament to complete the AfroBasket preparations. Kenya was expected to take part too.

In 2019, FIBA Africa announced that Rwanda will host the 30th edition of FIBA AfroBasket out beating the bids from Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and DRC.

Rwanda will rub shoulders with DRC in the opening match on August 24, 2021
