Simba’s success comes after overcoming a goal conceded away with a heavy 4-0 win over this Zimbabwean side, Platinum FC.

Before the game, five players plus three staff members tested positive for COVID-19 on the visitors’ side.

In the game, 39 minutes were enough for Simba to open the scoring. Tanzanian defender, Erasto Nyoni converted a spot kick after Luis Miquissone was fouled in the box.

15 minutes after the break, Shomari Kapombe doubled the lead for the home side before John Bocco and Zambian maestro Clatous Chama made it 3 and 4 respectively. The last two goals come in additional time

It is not the first time the Vodacom Premier League Champions have reached this stage. In 2003, Simba beat the Egyptian champions, Zamalek in the CAF Champions League second round to qualify to the group stages, after having beaten Santos of South Africa in the first round.

In 2019, the Tanzania side went through the CAF Champions League group stage again before they got eliminated by DRC giants, TP Mazembe in Quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, An impressive performance for Congolese sides, TP Mazembe and AS Vita Club who managed to qualify for the Champions League group stage. The same to South Africa, Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chief have gone through.  Not forgetting Algerians MC Alger and CR Belouizdad.
