Tanzania Football Federation, TFF suspended all domestic football for the next fortnight as the nation mourns the passing of President John Magufuli.
Wednesday night, March 17, 2021, Ms Dr Samia Suluhu announced on National Television that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr John Pombe Magufuli died following a 10-year heart illness.
It is in this context that the Football Association of Tanzania has announced that they have suspended football activities in the country for the coming two weeks.
“The Tanzania Football Federation has suspended its matches for two weeks. The decision was made to unite all Tanzanians in mourning the tragedy of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency John Pombe Magufuli,” said the federation.
The Tanzania Vodacom Premier League and The Burundi Primus League were the only leagues in East Africa that continued play even after the global pandemic COVID-19 struck. The Tanzania Vodacom Premier League was on hold until April 6 as The Taifa Stars are preparing to face Equatorial Guinea on March 25 before hosting Libya three days later in the AFCON Qualifiers.
The country has set up 14 days to pray for him and all the flags have been raised to half-mast and Dr Samia Suluhu is the transitional President of Tanzania.
