APR Women Volleyball Club comfortably outmatched Police

APR Women Volleyball Club triumphed over Police Women Volleyball Club in a straight-sets victory, setting a positive tone as they began the second leg of the Rwanda National League

KIMISAGARA, March 30, the second leg of the Rwanda Women’s Volleyball National League tipped off with an eagerly anticipated matchup  between the leading and second-placed teams from the first leg.  A newly established derby in Rwanda Women’s Volleyball League between Army team and the cops.

APR Women Volleyball Club led the standings after the first leg with four victories out of five matches, with their only defeat inflicted by Police. They entered this game with a firm determination to avenge that defeat and maintain their position at the top of the standings.

A Christian Hatumimana-coached side, Police WVC, without Catherine Ainambabazi, struggled to keep pace with a determined APR squad led by Benitha Mukandayisenga, Valentine Munezero, and Seraphine Mukantambara. They were defeated in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) in a one-sided affair that concluded earlier than expected for such anticipated derbies.

Earlier at the same venue, the RRA team, resting some of their key players, emerged victorious over East Africa University Rwanda in a four-set match. Ruhango also secured a win over IPRC Kigali in a 3-0 set match that began at 9 am.

Under the leadership of Peter Kamasa, APR Women Volleyball Club’s triumph over Police solidified their hold on the top spot in the league with 16 points, before facing Ruhango on Easter Sunday.

APR Women Volleyball Club’s record in the 2024 National League now stands at 5 wins and 1 loss.

RRA follows closely in the standings with 14 points, while Police’s recent defeat has pushed them into third position with 12 points.

Volleyball action continues this Easter Sunday, with RRA taking on IPRC Kigali at 12 PM, followed by Police versus East Africa University Rwanda at Kimisagara Gymnasium.

The APR versus Ruhango game is scheduled for 1 PM at Kepler.

The National League games in both men’s and women’s categories have been expedited in anticipation of their impending halt, as the clubs representing the country in the Africa Club Championship prepare to fly to Egypt.
